Directorate of Forensic Science Services (DFSS), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has taken a visionary step of establishing a new Central Forensic Science Laboratory in M.P. of the country. CFSL, Bhopal established in 2011 under DFSS, MHA is one of the three new CFSLs (at Bhopal, Pune & Bhopal) established by Government of India along with three existing CFSLs at Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Kolkata. CFSL Bhopal is rendering its services to various law enforcement agencies of Central and State Governments. Primary aim of CFSL Bhopal is to provide high quality, credible and on time Forensic Services to Criminal Justice Delivery System.
Organised and individual based crime as well as terrorist activities is constantly posing threat to the society and homeland security. The scientific investigations, therefore, play amajor role to combat the crime. Use of advanced technology and scientific means by potential criminals makes the task of detection more tedious and challenging, particularly when the technology is fast changing. CFSL Bhopal is committed to work dedicatedly to meet the challenges and to develop new technologies and create new scientific knowledge to assist the criminal justice system in effective manner.
Various scientific divisions such as Questioned documents, Forensic Biology and Serology, Narcotics Division, Forensics Physics, Computer Forensics, Ballistics, Audio-Video examination lab have been established in CFSL Bhopal and some more divisions such as Forensic Psychology, Forensic Toxicology, Forensic Engineering, Forensic Intelligence are at the verge of establishment. As a part of expansion plan of DFSS, MHA, Government of India, to provide quality, timely and credible forensic services a new CFSL complex for CFSL Bhopal is being constructed on a land area of 20 Acre at Barkhera Bonder, (Bhopal) under XII Five Year Plan Scheme.
